About PhotoWalkthrough

PhotoWalkthrough.com is a site where I can post tutorials showing how a particular photograph was created. But if you have tutorials of your own to contribute I'd be delighted to add them.Initially this will focus mainly on the photoshop postprocessing of a digital image but this scope might expand to cover all elements of photography.
In an effort to let the visitors guide the direction of the site I'd added a voting system to the home page where you can vote for the image you'd like to see a tutorial on next. No promises how often updates will be but it would be great to start at 1 per week approximately. And yes I'm looking into vidcasting as well as the flash videos. I'm still hunting for an affordable screen recording program.
The idea for the site came from my participation in the Tips From The Top Floor forum - the message board associated with the podcast of the same name. The excellent contributors there asked me how I created an image and I decided that the best way to show them was to actually show them. I created a series of videos and people seemed to find them useful. It is, therefore, my plan to do more.
The angle I want to take with this site is that of following a particular image through as much of the creative process as possible. I don't want this to turn into just another photoshop tips site. Tips are welcome but they should come as part of the development of an image. Ideally the tutorials page will contain a gallery of the images created here and clicking on one will take you to a page where you can see everything about how that image was created.
This site should focus not just on the mechanics of how an image was produced but also explain the mental process of the artist. It should explain why they made the decisions they did - even if it was just "because it looked nice". I hope that a typical visitor here will already be comfortable with the process of shooting a photograph and getting it onto their PC but they might be interested in the more artistic elements of the process such as how to look at a photograph and tell if it's a keeper. Or how to look at a photograph and see within it a crop or processing technique that will make it stand out.
Contributions from others are welcomed. You don't need to produce video tutorials - flash, plain HTML or whatever medium you're most comfortable with is fine. Just please ensure that your contributions are themed around a particular image. You don't have to spend a lot of time around the more mundane elements of your image creation but please do keep to the format of allowing the viewers to see the whole process even if you whiz through some parts of it. If in doubt then please contact me. I will be very happy to advise and help out.
This is clearly a brand new site and at the time of writing I only have the one video tutorial. I hope the site will develop and grow and I encourage anyone who has enjoyed what they saw here to get in touch.
