Thursday, June 25, 2009 at 11:39PM In this stand-alone tutorial we have a little fun decorating a netbook using our own photograph printed on moo stickers. We cover how to create the stickers in Photoshop using guides and slices then we have a quick timelapse of sticking them on the netbook. As a bonus Moo.com have given us a promo code to get 10% discount on the stickers used so you can try this yourself. Use promo code pwtmoo09 at the checkout.

Just got the moosletter and in it a link to this tutorial.
A couple of questions:
1. Do you have any idea about the life expectancy of the stickers on a netbook back? I mean, the various stickers (Intel inside, etc.) that come with a laptop/netbook typically peel off after just a few months' time. Of course, these stickers are placed below the keyboard, an area with much more use.
2. Can you provide help for cutting an image into a mosaic for people who don't have Photoshop? Any freeware tools out there?
Im afraid I don't really have any life expectancy for the stickers. I've had mine on there for the best part of a month now and the netbook has travelled quite a bit but it still looks great. It's fair to say, though, that there are lots of edges there and they're easy to catch. One thing that may reassure you, though, is that this isn't the first time I did this sticker exercise. The first time I did it I had to then remove all the stickers and they were really very hard to get off - it took me well over an hour and a lot of elbow grease to leave the netbook clean and tidy. I recommend long and strong fingernails!
As for cutting up the stickers - you could probably use just about any graphics package. Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop Elements could no doubt do the same thing. Or if you have an image of your own that you'd like slicing up then you could always drop it to me in an email and I'll mail you back a zip file of all the slices.
I just tried it and it is great!
