I explain in the comments section of this video on YouTube why you're having problems with this tool.
When you selected the spot healing brush and select the content-aware option, you forgot to switch the mode from "normal" to "replace", which is the reason why the white background color is bleeding into your retouched areas.
Thanks for the feedback. After recording the video I did a little exploration myself and found that I got perfect results if I used a marquee selection and did a content aware fill using that. I guessed that the area outside the edge of the image was being "selected" and matched to and using the marquee tool didn't select outside the image. I'd not considered your suggestion of the "normal" or "replace" feature. I'll give that a try too. Thanks for the suggestion. n the mean time, though, I do have a good work-around in using the marquee tool (or magic wand). Just make sure that the selection area slightly overlaps the image area to avoid getting some ugly lines.
