Tutorial 2, Chapter 3 - HMS Belfast - Cabin Door

PhotoWalkthrough.com made it into the iTunes podcast directory today so as a special celebration I've decided to launch the final chapter of tutorial 2 early. In this tutorial I cover layer order and spot editing onto a new layer.

I'm still learning every day about how to produce these video tutorials. I've now registered the software I'm using to record them so starting with tutorial 3 you shouldn't see any ugly messages in the corner. And also starting with tutorial 3 you should hear a difference in audio quality. Thanks to the help of Ravsitar and Appu I've learned a lot about audio and video compression so my file sizes are smaller and hopefully the presentation is of a higher quality. Feedback on how things can be improved is always welcome, though, so please email me if you have comments.

Tutorial 3 will start next week and will cover the Cheshire Sky panorama you've been voting for on the home page. Those videos should include how to process multiple RAW files in Adobe Bridge, using 16 bit images, stitching panoramas using Autostitch, cropping, levelling, contrast improvement, colour enhancement and dodging and burning.

Tutorial 2, Chapter 2 - HMS Belfast - Cabin Door

Chapter 2 of the latest tutorial is now available. I'm still tinkering with file sizes and audio formats. Sorry to anyone that tried the videos and got no sound at one point last week. Try again now - it should be working again. I've also added an AVI download link to the tutorial page for linux users or anyone that wants to keep copies of the videos.

I'm planning to do video releases weekly now but I'm making no firm promises. Work might get in the way. I'm also looking into providing an RSS feed for either this blog or for the video tutorials themselves. And with luck I'll be adding a forum to the site soon.

Finally, just a quick thank you to Ravsitar for help with controlling my sound and Appu for help with video formats. You guys rock.

Tutorial 2, Chapter 1 - HMS Belfast - Cabin Door

At last - I think I'm getting a handle on this thing. I must have tried every screen recorder available now and at least a couple of them wrecked my PC enough that I had to do a safe mode restart and rollback. Scary stuff. Anyway, for the moment I've settled on an AVI format created using HyperCam as suggested by Doug Turecek (I hope I got your name right) - thanks Doug! The idea behind the AVI files is that I'm looking into perhaps figuring out vidcasting sometime and making the tutorials available to subscribe to using an RSS feed. Anyone with advice or resources on how I go about doing that, please write to me at photowalkthrough@googlemail.com.

So at last we have a new tutorial. Sorry I've not done the one you've all been voting for. I'll look at doing that one next. The current tutorial shows how to create the cross processing effect you can see in the HMS Belfast - Cabin Door image. It's a lovely effect, especially on low colour or high contrast images. I also cover how to make an action. New steps will be made available over the coming days. I've not decided on a schedule yet

As always please mail me if you have comments or suggestions on what you'd like to see covered or how things can be improved.
