If you would like to follow along with the video tutorial then you can find the original version of this image also on my flickr account here. You can also see the full sized version of this image on my flickr here.

To the left you'll find links to tutorial videos of me taking the original source version of my Low Tide image and turning it into the image you see here using photoshop CS2. I don't pretend that this is the best or definitive way to create a black and white image in photoshop. This is just how I happened to do it on this occasion and a few people asked me to explain how I'd done it.

Sorry if you find I'm talking too quickly in these movies. This is the first time I've done this and because this tutorial covers all the edits I did on this image - and there are lots - I've had to hurry through it as much as possible to keep the file sizes down.

This is still experimental for me so I'm keeping file sizes down. If you have any feedback on how future tutorials could be improved the please do get in touch.

Due to quality issues with AVI files I'm providing flash versions of these demos. They're large but you can see properly what's going on. You must be on broadband to view these files. The Flash files will stream which means they'll start displaying while they're still downloading in the background. Sorry there are no play/pause/rewind controls on the flash demos but they do loop when they get to the end. If anyone knows of a better demo recording software please contact me.

Below the video links is a screenshot showing all the layers produced by this demo. I do them in a slightly different order but achieve the same result.
